What would Dave do?

Alright, I may have never shared this on here before, but we really L.O.V.E. Dave Ramsey. He has inspired us to get out of debt and create a better lifestyle for our family. His book, "The Total Money Makeover" is a favorite of ours. Except for when we read it through ourselves, we've had it loaned out to different family and friends for almost 2 years, it's seriously that good! We love listening to his show, too. And we can't wait until we call in to say, "We're debt free!" :)

My favorite line he uses is, "Live like no one else so you can live like no one else." I can get by with very little short term so I can truly have what I want long term.

People think we're a little weird sometimes. That debt is just a part of normal life. It really is, but isn't that sad?

When we were first married Jared's S10 broke down so we decided to buy the truck we have now. We didn't really think about it too much, that's just what grown-ups do, right? And being a little naive, we kept hearing what we would be paying a month, not what the true cost would be. We really do love the truck, but if we could go back we wouldn't have bought it. Since the truck we have done pretty well at buying only for our NEEDS and only when we can truly afford it(aka pay cash for it).

Yesterday we did some car shopping, thinking we could downsize the truck now that we have some equity in it and come out of the deal with no more car payment. We tried explaining this to the car salesman. But he kept saying he could get us in such and such car that cost a little more but he could get the payment to half the size. No, we want NO payment. Has no one EVER done that?!

Anyway, looks like we'll be keeping our trusty truck for a while...

We always wait until we can pay for a car. It will give you a good sense of satisfaction.

We bought both our cars (junky as they may be) with cash last year. When we were looking Jon almost went postal on a salesman. "I want to know the PRICE.OF.THE.CAR!" and all they would give was a monthly payment. Very frustrating...so we bought off Craigs list instead.

I think that many problems in our nation would be absolved if more people thought the same financially as you and Jared (and some other smarties like us =) do!)

I totally agree that by making sacrifices now we will be so blessed and better off in the long run!
